Interview with Ms Hajbouha Zoubeir, President of the Phosboucraa Foundation

New Zealand is one of a number of countries importing phosphate rock from Western Sahara. There has been recent public discussion about the importation.

Ms Hajbouha Zoubeir visited New Zealand in February to talk about the work of the Phosboucraa Foundation. The Foundation was established in 2014 to carry out the Phosboucraa mine's sustainability programme in the region. Over the last five years, the Foundation has supported access to education, skills development, entrepreneurship, and healthcare.

An interest in farm sustainability and sustainable fertiliser management was the key driver behind Massey University student Theané de Klerk’s decision to focus her Master’s degree on New Zealand’s agricultural phosphorus budget. Theané is one of three students that the Fertiliser Association of New Zealand is currently supporting.
